Game-changing connectivity delivered by Sure for the NatWest International Island Games

With only 100 days to go until the NatWest International Island Games, Sure, the Technology Partner, is excited to announce connectivity upgrades at 25 sites across the island that are set to host the sporting action, aiming to deliver the greatest fan and athlete experience possible at the international sporting event.

With this new technology in place the Games looks set to be the ‘most connected ever’ for local spectators and those supporting their home teams from across the world.

All sporting venues will have up to 60 times faster speeds which includes fibre and 4G upgrades, meaning that the Games feel the full benefit of Sure’s state-of-the-art fixed and mobile networks. Upgrades have been specifically planned to create a meaningful legacy, with Sure also gifting 12 months of free broadband to venues.

Eight sports (badminton, basketball, bowls, table tennis, tennis, swimming, athletics and football) will be live streamed so the world can join in the festivities and witness the medal success as it happens.

In a Guernsey Games first, site upgrades from Sure will allow the sharing of live updates through quality tracking systems for sailing, the half marathon, triathlon, cycling and shooting, giving fans, locally and worldwide, the experience of live updates of their home nation teams and favourite sports.

Alistair Beak, Group CEO at Sure, said: “We are thrilled to set a new standard for connectivity at Guernsey’s sporting venues, we set out to deliver an amazing fan and athlete technology experience and I’m proud of the work our team has put in to make this happen. Sport truly has the power to connect people and with these upgrades in place the Games are going to be an even more amazing experience for the whole community.

“Sure has been supporting local sport for a number of years in the build up to the Games and these venue upgrades are the culmination of our pledge to the community, to leave a meaningful legacy long after Games week, which we know will be a fantastic showcase of sporting achievement.”

Islanders will see the benefits of these upgrades in their day-to-day lives when they visit venues such as Beau Sejour, the Tennis Centre and the Hougue du Pommier site.

The Hougue du Pommier site, home to indoor bowls and table tennis, has undergone the most significant series of upgrades, and will now benefit from Sure’s fibre connectivity and new WiFi access points throughout the venue; including the social and viewing areas, allowing visiting athletes to seamlessly connect with their friends and family, and spectators to share the highlights of the Games around the world
