Sure shortlisted for Guernsey Community Foundation Awards
Sure, the local telecoms company and one of Guernsey’s largest single employers, has been shortlisted for the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at this year’s Guernsey Community Foundation Awards, following a year that has presented a set of challenges to the community like no other.
The awards, now in its 11th year, celebrates local charities, organisations, groups, individuals, and businesses who work tirelessly to raise money and embark on community projects for the benefit of others, across the Bailiwick and further afield.
Sure has been shortlisted for the Corporate Social Responsibility Award which recognises the active involvement of a company and its team directly, or through a partnership, with local charitable, voluntary or community projects that have had a quantifiably positive effect on the local community.
The shortlisting is the result of the Sure Community Foundation’s active involvement in the community, including its increased support to those in need this year during the coronavirus pandemic. At the start of the lockdown, Sure employees fundraised and Sure matched this pound for pound to donate a further £40,000 to the Foundation in order to help combat the strain of the lockdown on the local community. As of September 2020, the Foundation is still lending more than 100 devices across the island to help those most vulnerable ‘stay connected’ including devices for the elderly unable to contact loved ones and students without access to WiFi to continue their studies.
Sure launched the Sure Community Foundation in Guernsey in 2012, since then it has donated over £200,000 to more than 60 registered charities within the Bailiwick.
Karen Jagger of the Sure Community Foundation said: “We are extremely proud to have been shortlisted for a third time for this award. Our team at the Sure Community Foundation is always incredibly busy, but this year has had to go above and beyond to help our Bailiwick during extremely challenging circumstances.
“Being shortlisted is a testament to the hard work of our 11 committee members and all of the other Sure employees who put their time and money into the Foundation to make our impact on our island as effective as possible. We look forward to the awards night which always showcases such wonderful charitable work. We wish everyone that’s been nominated the best of luck.”
The awards ceremony is taking place on 17 November at St James where the winners from each category will be announced.
