Sport is such an important part of so many islanders’ lives and we’re lucky there are so many wonderful options and facilities on offer in Guernsey. Many of these sporting chances are only possible because of the tireless work of volunteers. From the Saturday morning Parkrun all the way up to the Island Games, which will be taking place in Guernsey in 2023, volunteers contribute so much to the sports we love.

As technology partner of the Island Games 2023, we are proud to sponsor the 2021 Pride of Guernsey Sport Volunteer of the Year award as it recognises the work of individuals behind the scenes to support the island’s sports players.

Justin Bellinger, chief executive at Sure Guernsey, said: “Volunteering in sport requires an enormous level of dedication - according to UK Coaching, 74% of coaches are volunteers giving on average four hours per week. As an island community that enjoys a wide variety of sport, this award recognises the efforts of those people behind the scenes, often on the side lines but just as invested as the athletes.

“In the lead up to the Island Games 2023, we will be applying our expertise, experience and commitment to the island community, enhancing the connectivity at all Island Games sporting venues and leaving a legacy for the future.

“We hope that this will elevate everyone’s experience during the Games, from visiting media posting updates, to local spectators who want to check the latest events and results.”

Justin continues: “Our company has a rich history in sport having sponsored and formed many sporting teams across our 125-year history. Several of our colleagues play sport and we recognise that sport is a fantastic way to keep people connected. We look forward to the Island Games and encourage any teams looking for sport sponsorship to get in touch.”
