A selection of local charities each received £100 this Christmas thanks to the Sure Community Foundation. Part of Sure’s Christmas campaign to ‘Get More from Sure’ also involves giving more, something that is especially relevant at Christmas time and after the last two years; the pandemic has impacted charities’ ability to function, while simultaneously increasing the need for many of their services.

The donations, funded by the Sure Community Foundation, were made to charities chosen by the lucky winners of the Sure Christmas Call radio competition, held in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man.

We partnered with Island FM, Channel 103, and Energy FM to offer £100 every day, from Monday 6 to Friday 10 December, to a lucky winner from each island. At the end of the week, one of the winners also had the chance to take home a grand prize: an iPhone 13. All islanders had to do is answer the phone by saying “Give me more this Christmas with Sure”.

As well as the £100 for themselves, each winner also selected a charity to support with the same sum. In total 12 fantastic charities were chosen from across the three islanders to receive a donation from the Sure Community Foundation.

Guernsey’s grand prize winner was Stephen Forman, who chose to support Guernsey Chest and Heart. Charities that were supported by the other winners include Guernsey RNLI, Les Bourgs Hospice, and the GSPCA.

Karen Jagger from the Sure Community Foundation said: “It’s great that such a fun festive activity is helping a plethora of local charities across the islands. ‘Get more from Sure’ was our theme for this Christmas and thanks to the Sure Christmas Call we were able to donate money and give away great prizes. Christmas is a time for remembering the needs of others, and so we hope that the donations made to the good causes, our winners chose, will go towards making a positive impact locally.”
